2025 Medicare and YOU Book
Check out what’s new in Medicare health insurance this year to help you manage your overall health and wellness by reviewing the Official U.S. Government Medicare Handbook, the 2025 Medicare and YOU Book!

Medicare Advantage and Dual Special Needs Plans (DSNP)
These plans offer an alternative way to get your Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, benefits. Unlike Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage and DSNP plans may also include prescription drug coverage (Part D) and additional benefits, like vision, dental, hearing coverage, over-the-counter health products,
transportation, and a fitness benefit.

Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D)
You can enroll in a stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that can complement your existing Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) coverage. These plans cover a formulary of brand and generic medications.
Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)
Private insurance companies sell these policies to help pay some of the healthcare costs that Original Medicare (Parts A and B) doesn't cover. These plans may offer benefits such as assistance with deductibles, premiums, and copayment/ coinsurance, as well as emergency foreign travel coverage.

Medigap plans do not include prescription drug coverage. You’ll need to purchase a separate Part D plan for medications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for Medicare?
Most people qualify for Medicare at age 65. You may also qualify earlier if you have certain disabilities or end-stage renal disease.
What’s the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?
Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) and is provided by the federal government. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurers and usually includes extra benefits like dental, vision, and drug coverage.
Do I need a Part D plan if I have Original Medicare?
Yes. Original Medicare doesn’t cover prescription drugs, so you’ll need to enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan to avoid paying out of pocket for medications.
Can I have both Medicare and Medicaid?
Yes. If you qualify for both, you may be eligible for a Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP), which combines benefits and provides extra support.
When can I enroll in Medicare?
You can enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period (around your 65th birthday), during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15–December 7), or during a Special Enrollment Period if you qualify.
